Education can help eradicate poverty, ignorance: Dr Patnaik
Tirupati, Mar 15 (UNI) Former Orissa Chief Minister Dr Janaki Vallabha Patnaik today said only scientific education could help to eradicate poverty and ignorance from the society.
Delivering an address at the 11th Convocation of Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyappetha (RSVP) here, Dr Patnaik said despite its economic development, India had failed to completely wipe out poverty and social ineqalities.
Eventhough Nagrajuna was a famous philosopher from Andhra Pradesh, who had propounded the Madhyamika Buddhist Philosophy, was unable to bear the suffering of the poverty, he avowed.
''It is heartening to note that among the existing Sanskrit Universities in India, the Tirupati Sanskrit University holds the most eminent position in Sanskrit education and research,'' he said.
The Tirupati University was the only one in the country which had secured 'A-Plus' grade and excellence in teaching of traditional ''shastras'' by the University Grants Commission (UGC), he said.
