Mumbai, Mar 15 (UNI) A total of 2,623 people were awarded simple imprisonment for drunken driving under section 185 of the Motors Vehicles Act in 2007 and 1,084 people till March 14, 2008 in the city.
Licenses of 2,798 people were cancelled for drunken driving in 2007 and another 1,516 people till March 14, 2008 in the city.
Simple imprisonment under section 184 of the Motors Vehicles Act was awarded to 47 people for dangerous driving in 2007 and to 27 people till March 14, 2008 and licenses of 62 people were suspended for dangerous driving in 2007 and of 4 persons till March 14, 2008 in the metropolis.
During the special drives conducted by Mumbai Traffic Police from January 1, 2008 till date, as many as 2,920 cases were registered for drunken driving, 1,054 cases of dangerous driving, 2,030 cases for without safety belt, 1,366 for without tail light.
Cases against 1,783 taxi/autorickshaws nearby station are registered, 602 cases of pressure/musical/reverse and honking horn, 1,651 cases of halting at pedestrians crossing and 87 cases of jay walker, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, HeadQuarters Traffic, Mumbai.
