TN to set up Transmission Corporation
Madurai, Mar 14 (UNI) For developing a transmission network, the Tamil Nadu government will set up a Transmission Corporation as per the provision of the Electrical Act 2003.
Inaugurating a session on ''Vision: TN Southern Districts'' organised by CII Madurai Zone here today, state Electricity Minister Arcot N Veerasamy said the Corporation would also take care of evacuation for the Merchant Power Projects and Ultra Mega Power Projects (UMPPs).
He said while Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) Chairman S Mahendranathan would be the Chairman of the proposed Transmission Corporation, its Chief Engineer (Transmission) would be the Managing Director.
Rejecting privatisation of the Corporation, he said the TNEB employees, willing to work in the Corporation, would be transferred to the proposed Corporation.
He said additional 400 KV sub-stations were being set up and the transmission voltage would be increased to 765 KV to enable transfer of bulk power from Koodangulam Atomic Power Station and UMPPs coming up in the state.
