Uttar Pradesh: High level meet on naxalism on Mar 18

Lucknow, Mar 14: In view of fresh Intelligence Bureau (IB) alert about naxalite attacks in the affected states particularly in Uttar Pradesh, an emergency meeting has been conveyed here on March 18 of senior-most police officials of nine naxal effected states to chalk out strategies to check the menace.

Director General of Police (DGPs) of nine states along with DG of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and DG of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the seven-member delegation of Union Ministry of Home Affairs led by its special secretary, internal security M L Kumawal would particiapate in the meeting.

According to highly placed sources, the DGPs of Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and the host state Uttar Pradesh would participate in the meet.

A joint task force and better inter-state communication mechanism were likley to be on the agenda of the meeting.

The fresh IB advisory, after the recent naxal attack on police training centre in Orissa, had necessitated the emergency meeting, the sources said. It was apprehended that UP might be the target of naxalites with other inputs of inflitration of maoists from Nepal.

The Additional DG (law and order) Brij Lal told UNI that the security on Indo-Nepal borders had already been intensified and the local police along with PAC jawans were coordinating with the SSB to maintain vigil.
