Kanpur, Mar 14 (UNI) Preperations for staging first cricket test match between visiting South Africa and India from April 11 to 15 at the Green Park stadium here were underway in fullswing.
Regional Sports Officer Bula Ganguli today told UNI that while, the cleanliness drive for outside the field has already been started in the first phase, the maintenance work would be completed by the first week of April.
It is the first time, when ten air conditioners were being installed in Governor's enclosure, player pavelion and Media centre in view of the changing weather, Ms Ganguli informed.
The ground does not need much maintenance, as the India and Pakistan one dayer match was held recently on November 11 last year, she noted.
Meanwhile, a three member team of Nimbus Communication Limited led by Prashant Bisht today visited the Green Park stadium alongwith two members of Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association.
According to Mr Bisht, 36 cameras would be installed in the stadium, having a seating capacity of about 39,500, for Live Telecast of the match.
A report would also be submitted in head office regarding this shortly, he said.
He expressed his satisfaction over the stadium, saying some minor changes were required from the stadium officials.
Meanwhile, pitch quarter Shiv Kumar said the work to maintain ground have already been started and the preparation of main pitchs would start from March 20.
The officials sources said the district administration had sent a letter to the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association for deposting Rs 50 lakh as rent of the stadium for staging the five day match.
