Chennai, Mar 14: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who had announced an assistance of Rs 4.70 lakh to a 12th standard blind girl student to enable her to participate in the Young Leaders Conference to be held in the US, today handed over the cheque to this effect to the girl.

An official release here said Mr Karunanidhi gave the cheque to the girl N L Bino Sebin at the State Secretariat. After accepting the cheque, the girl recited a poem in honour of the Chief Minister for his gesture.

She also thanked Local Administration Minister M K Stalin for recommending her case to the Chief Minister and also extended an invitation to him to attend her birthday.

Accepting the invitation, Mr Stalin said he would take part in the celebrations on April 17 at her residence.

The girl, studying in the Little Flower School for the Blind, had sought the assistance from the Chief Minister's relief fund. Mr Karunanidhi sympathetically considered her representation and sanctioned the assistance on March 10 to enable her to participate in the conference to be held in US in June.
