After Bundelkhand, politics grips UP over Dalit killing

Etawah, Mar 14 (UNI) The killing of five members of a dalit family in UP has atained a political have with various parties rushing in to cash on it.

With the Congress taking the lead after announcement of party general secretary Rahul Gandhi reaching here tomorrow morning, the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the principal Opposition also did not miss any chance.

The leaders of both the parties reached Etawah to meet the Dalit family for preventing Congress from taking any political mileage.

After welcoming Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in Varanasi, Mayawati air dashed to Etawah and met the bereaved family.

Besides suspending the Ekdil police station in-charge Gyan Prakash Singh during her 30-minutes stay, the CM announced the state government would take responsibility of education and marriage of the victims' children.

The UP government had already announced a financial assitance of Rs 1 lakh each to the bereaved family. Besides, Rs 20,000 ex-gratia would be given to them.

The BSP supremo further directed the police to swoop upon the accussed at the earliest and take stringent action against them.

In a gruesome act, five members of a family, including two women, were shot dead over an old land dispute at village Ameenabad in Ekdil area on March 12.

Etawah is the home town of SP chief and former state CM Mulayam Singh Yadav.
