Jaipur, Mar 13 : A unique program named as 'Aranya Parva was organised in Jaipur ahead of Holi, which brought together tribal artists from as many as eight states of the country.

Devoted to the folk culture of the tribals, the three-day long event was kick started on March 11.

Over 200 artists took part in the festival.

Rajeev Acharya, one of the organisers, said that the main reason behind organising a 'tribal festival' was to encourage the art forms that might otherwise die a slow death.

"These dance forms are unique and I guess Holi is the perfect time to celebrate. This is a program that Rajasthan has never seen before, it is devoted to these tribals," Acharya added.

The audience could feel and connect the energy and the spirit that these artists exhibited through their performances.

Holi, symbolises the triumph of good over evil and is celebrated in the month of March.

Usually, Holi brings together people from all classes and age groups who put colours on each other, distribute sweets and take out processions, dancing to tunes of drums.

As per the Hindu calendar, it falls on the Phalgun Purnima (Full Moon), which will be celebrated on March 22.

In this festival main emphasis is laid on the burning of Holika or lighting of Holi.

The origin of the traditional lighting of Holi is attributed by some to the burning of demonesses like Holika, Holaka and Putana who troubled little children or to the burning of Madan according to others.
