Scarlett murder: Police officer suspended for lapse in investigations
Panaji, Mar 13: Anjuna police station sub inspector Nerlon Albuquerque was suspended with immediate effect today following allegations that there have been certain ''lapses'' in the investigations into the rape and murder case of British girl Scarlette Keeling.
Inspector General of Police (Crime) Kishan Kumar told the sources, ''The officer has been suspended, pending departmental inquiry.'' He claimed that the police had almost cracked the case with the arrest of two people. The second person, Placido Carvelhi, was arrested last night. Meanwhile, Mrs Fiona McKeown, mother of the victim girl, along with her friend and legal advisor called on Chief Secretary J P Singh and reiterated her plea for a CBI probe into the matter.
She also demanded that a criminal case be filed against the PSI, Nerlon Albuquerque, for showing negligence in the case. She alleged that the police had made inordinate delay in sending the viscera for forensic examination.
