Kozhikode, Mar 13: Functioning of the Government Dental College (GDC) in the city was today partially affected following a hunger strike by post-graduate students and house surgeons demanding fund for hostel construction.

More than 200 students and doctors participated in the dawn-to-dusk stir, which was inaugurated by Pain and Palliative Care Society Director Dr G Suresh on the college premises.

GDC Union President Phinse M Philip told UNI that the students were compelled to go on agitation as the government had ''failed'' to release funds sanctioned in 2005 for setting up hostels for boys and girls, despite representation to State Health Minister P K Sreemathy on the issue.
