Govt asked to inquire into a controversial book within 2 days
Ranchi, Mar 13 (UNI) Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Alamgir Alam today asked the state government to inquire into a news report which carried an article on a book having portrayed freedom fighter Amar Shahid Thakur Vishwanath Shahdev in poor light.
There was pandemonium at the Jharkhand Assembly today with the Opposition quoting a front page article in a local vernacular daily that said that 'Chotanagpur Ki Masihi Mandali Ka Itihash' portrayed the character of the freedom fighter in a way which would not be acceptable to the people of Jharkhand.
Opposition leader Arjun Munda(BJP) raised the issue, saying that whoever was involved in writing and publishing the book should be brought to justice.
Former Home Minister Sudesh Mahto(AJSU) also demanded ban on the book.
However, Chief Minister Madhu Koda said that the issue came to the government's notice only through the newspaper, adding that an inquiry would be conducted on the same.
Deputy Chief Minister and in-charge of Parliamentary Affairs Stephen Marandi said the content of the book was an individual's view but assured that the House would look into the matter.
