Gangtok, Mar 13 (UNI) Nepal cyclists dominated the maiden Khanchendzonga Mountain Biking Expedition-2008 wining both the solo and team events.
Neplese duo Mangal Krishna Lama and Padam Sabenhang finished first and second respectively in the solo event in the ten-day mountain biking which ended yesterday but the results were declared today.
Both of them received a cash prize of Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 1 lakh each respectively.
They added another victory and Rs 50,000 each in their pockets by wining the team event also.
Two time Everester Angphurba Sherpa, also from Nepal, won the Masters category of the biking meet.
Kulbir Kaur and Monica from Chandigarh were adjudged first and second respectively in the women's category.
India's football team captain Bhaichung Bhutia handed out the prizes to the winners.
Sikkim Tourism secretary G.P.Upadhyaya said the Khanchendzonga Mountain Biking Expedition, hosted by Sikkim Tourism Department, will be made an annual event and its participation will continue to grow in coming years.
Dubbed as an expedition to conquer the Himalayas, the ten days thrilling experience had covered all the four districts of the state with 32 cyclists participating in the meet covering a distance of about 450 kms.
