Cannabis worth several lakhs seized, 5 held

Allahabad, Mar 13 (UNI) The Special Operation Group (SOG), in a joint operation with the city police, today busted a smuggling syndicate with the arrest of five people possessing cannabis (charas) estimated at several lakhs of rupees in the international market.

Working on a tip-off, a police team swooped upon Shivram, Islam Khan, Bholashah, Salma and Prabha in Sarai Inayat area.

On being searched, as much as six kg psychotropic substances was recovered from their possession.

While Shivram was a local resident, others hailed from Bihar, police said.

On being interrogated, the quintet confessed to the crime, saying they used to transport the consignment from Nepal to Bihar and Mumbai.

A manhunt had been launched to arrest their other accomplices.
