Lucknow, Mar 12 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today recommended a CBI probe into the controversial CD issue which had rocked both Houses of the State Assembly and evoked a sharp reaction from the Opposition, specially Bharatiya Janata Party.
An announcement to this effect was made by Chief Minister Mayawati at a press conference here this afternoon.
The CD prepared by one Ambedkar Sudhar Samiti was said to be having objectionable contents about the upper caste. The BJP demanded an impartial probe into this yesterday and alleged the remarks in the CD were abusive and against the hindu dieties.
The opposition parties alleged that the CD is in circulation in many states and should be withdrawn immediately.
The ruling Bahujan Samaj Party MP from Basti Lalmani was said to be the patron of the CD and the BJP had even alleged the direct involvement of the BSP and its supremo and Chief Minister Mayawati in the case.
Ms Mayawati reiterated that her party and government had nothing to do with it and the inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was recommended.
Meanwhile, the BJP announced an agitation against the CD and the youth wing of the party had burnt the Chief Minister in effigy yesterday.
