Poojari protests against injustice to Karnataka in power dist
New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) Congress B Janardhana Poojari today sought the union government's intervention for ensuring fair distribution of central power surplus for Karnataka and other southern states reeling under acute power shortage.
In the special mentions in Rajya Sabha, he drew the attention of the House about Central Electricity Authority of India had reduced its allocation by 140 MW from 290 MW with effect from December 26, 2007 and the cuts had affected the some states in the southern grid.
Tamil Nadu, which was entitled for 175 MW from the Central pool, was getting 475 MW and the transfer had taken place even without consulting the affected states, he said.
The CEAI has snatched away Karnataka's allocation from the Central allocation giving undue advantage to Tamil Nadu. People of the state feel that this is against federal system as similar instances of injustice were being done against Karnataka, Mr Poojari said. Under such circumstances, the Centre should intervene to set things in order and restore Karnataka's share in the Central Power, he demanded.
