PMK to announce its decision on RS polls tomorrow
Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), a key ally in the DMK led alliance, will announce its crucial decision on its stand on Rajya Sabha elections from the state Assembly tomorrow.
Chaired by party founder leader S Ramadoss, the Administrative Committee, which met here this evening, could not take a decision as some of the leaders could not attend the meeting, party sources said.
The Committee would meet again tomorrow and take a final decision, the sources said adding Dr Ramadoss would announce the decision in a statement tomorrow.
The PMK's decision is considered crucial as the party after being denied a seat by the DMK, had been toying with the idea of fielding its own candidate or abstain from voting.
The Administrative Committee, which met last week, considered these options and empowered party leader Dr Ramadoss to take a final decision on the issue after holding another round of talks with the DMK.
The DMK, however shut the door for talks by announcing that the party and the Congress would contest two seats each and allotted one seat to the CPI(M).
The PMK initially announced that it would wait till March 15, the last date for filing nomination papers, but decided to finalise its stand this evening in view of the recent political developments.
The much awaited decision would, however, be announced tomorrow.
