Opposition BJP serves no-confidence notice on Speaker, Dy Speaker
Panaji, Mar 12 (UNI) Opposition BJP has served no-confidence notices against Speaker Pratapsingh Rane and Deputy Speaker Mauvin Godhinho.
The copies of the notices have now been placed before the Speaker, said new Legislature Secretary R Kodandaraman, here today.
The motion was signed by BJP leader Manohar Parrikar and seconded by the Legislature Party spokesperson Damodar Naik.
The notices gain significance in the wake of the five-day budget session beginning here on March 24 in the backdrop of the BJP's allegation that the Speaker and the Governor had been saving the ''minority government'' headed by Goa Chief Minister Digambar Kamat in and out of the Assembly ambit from collapse since inception on June 8, last year.
The motions were considered a tactical move by BJP, wherein the strength of the government would be made known during voting of the motions in the budget session.
BJP has a strength of 14, backed by an Independent Anil Salgaonkar in the 40-member House is against Congress, 18 backed by NCP-3, MGP-2 and Independent and unattached legislators one each.
The two-member Save Goa Front, the anti-Congress party formed before June 2, last year's elections to State Legislative Assembly, was merged with the Congress recently.
