New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The Government today asserted that there is no gender discrimination in the Air Force's Short Service Commission (SSC) against women.
Replying to a question during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Defence Minister A K Antony said the terms and service conditions of men and women officers in the Air Force are the same.
''The women SSC officers are eligible for similar pay and post retirement benefits akin to their male SSC counterparts,'' he replied to the question raised by Left Leader Brinda Karat on grant of Permanent Commission to women SSC officers.
He said the Government will ''look into'' policy review on grant of Permanent Commission to women SSC officers in the IAF.
''On request of various women's groups and our women members the Government will look into re-examining the policy,'' he added.
At Present, the Defence Minister, said Permanent Commission is not being granted to any SSC officer, irrespective of gender.
On how many male and female SSC officers had been appointed in the IAF over the past few years, Minister of State for Defence Rao Inderjeet Singh said while 179 male officers had been commissioned, no female officer had been recruited in the corresponding period.
