Patiala, Mar 12 (UNI) Former Punjab Minister Jagjit Singh was today questioned here in a disproportionate assets case against Maharashtra-cadre IPS officer and Punjab's former DGP S S Virk.
Singh, who has been granted interim bail by Punjab and Haryana High Court till April 2, was quizzed by SSP SK Asthana, who is heading one-man investigation panel into the high-profile case, on the directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Sources said that Singh was questioned about the norms and grounds and his role in sanctioning a mega housing project to the former DGP in Zirakpur.
It was alleged that though Zirakpur Municipal Council and village panchayat had refused to accord sanction for the housing project of the former DGP, the minister had sanctioned it at his own level.
He was also handed over a list of seven questions by SSP S K Asthana, and asked to give his response by tomorrow.
Singh, accompanied by two lawyers, also handed over his interim bail orders to Mr Asthana.
SSP Asthana said Jagjit Singh had been cooperating in the investigations. He had earlier came here on March 7 to join the investigations but could not meet the SSP due to cervical pain.
Meanwhile, S S VIRK former DGP, who was scheduled to come here today, did not turn up to join the investigations.
SSP Asthana has started assessing the value of properties owned by the former DGP in Chandigarh and Punjab, including his prime property in Zirakpur and his bank accounts were also under scanner, sources said.
Virk has also been charged with duping a widow of her prime land worth crores of rupees in Kharar, near Chandigarh.
