Washington, Mar 12 : Police arrested three novice filmmakers from next door to actress Kate Hudson's SoHo home on Tuesday March 11, when they were spotted waving a fake rifle on a roof.

The cops, who had been called by neighbours who spotted the student with the gun on the roof of the King St building, were fast in responding.

The trio, Raphael Dilauro, Adam Corre and Sam Maxwell, who are students at the New York University, were asked by cops to put down the realistic-looking weapon and surrender.

The incident took occurred at 24-year-old Dilauro's house, and the teens insisted that they were filming a project for school, however they did not have a camera with them when they were arrested.

The three were taken away in handcuffs and charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon, and they are awaiting arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.

"I think it was just some stupid kids playing a daft game," the New York Daily quoted a British woman who lives in the building as saying.

The woman, whose name is not known, said that she had seen Dilauro and his pals climbing up to the roof.

"I know they were filming because they were up there on Saturday," the woman added.

However, it was not clear if Hudson, 28, was home at the time of the scare.
