Chennai, Mar 12 (UNI) Two candidates of the ruling DMK, A A Jinnah and Vasanthi Stanley, today filed their nomination papers for the March 26 biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
The two filed their papers before Returning Officer and Legislative Assembly Secretary M Selvaraj.
Their names were proposed by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and senior ministers.
The candidates were accompanied by state ministers M K Stalin, Arcot N Veerasamy, Veerapandi S Arumugham, Subha Thangavelan, M R K Panneerselvam, Dr Poongothai, Ms Geetha Jeevan, Vellaikoil Swaminathan and K P P Samy and several DMK MLAs.
Elections, if necessary, would be held on March 26 to fill up six vacancies from the state Assembly as the tenure of Union Minister G K Vasan (Congress), R Shanmugasundaram (DMK), Advocate N Jothi, Thanga Tamilselvan, Syed Khan, Perumal (AIADMK) expires on April 2.
