Delhi BJP protests attack by CPM, seeks FIR against Left leaders
New Delhi, Mar 12 (UNI) The Delhi BJP today staged a protest demonstration against the the alleged attack on its workers by the CPM cadre on Sunday last, and demanded immediate registration of cases against the Left leadership.
Addressing a gathering at Jantar Mantar here Delhi BJP chief Harshvardhan sought immediate registration of FIR against Prakash Karat and Sitaram Yechury who, he alleged had led the attack on party workers at the CPI (M) headquarters on March 9.
''We want that an FIR be registered against those who led the attack against BJP workers.'' Alleging that the police was working under pressure from the Home ministry, hence dithering from registering the FIR sought by the BJP, the Delhi party chief said his party would continue to protest until their demands were met.
Former Union minister Vijay Goel said the Delhi Police Commissioner had accepted that his officials were injured in the stone pelting done from inside the CPM party headquarters.
''How can the police then deny an FIR by BJP members against the CPM cadre?'' he queried.
Calling upon party workers to prepare for a 'battle ahead', Mr Goel said the party must retaliate in the same manner as the CPM does.
Later party workers courted arrest at the Parliament Street police station.
They were released soon after the arrest, said a police official.
