Christian Priest arrested in cheating case
Madurai, Mar 12 (UNI) The Crime Branch (CB) police today arrested three people, including a Christian Priest Fr Paul Johnson, for cheating several people in Southern Districts of Tamil Nadu.
Police said based on a complaint from A Muthukrishnan, cases were registered against eleven people, including Fr Johnson and incarcerated Bishop Yobu Saravanan in two cheating cases.
Fr Johnson, who was running a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) 'Athma Nesan Thondu Niruvanam' collected Rs 8.50 lakh from 35 people by promising them to build concrete houses at several villages in Dindigul and Madurai districts.
Bishop Saravanan and his associates were charged with collecting Rs 8.90 lakh from about 100 people for constructing concrete houses at a nominal price.
Efforts were on to nab eight other accused, police added.
