Shanta Kumar, Prakash Javadekar among 14 BJP RS candidates
New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Shanta Kumar and BJP Spokesman Prakash Javadekar from Maharashtra figured among the 14 names cleared by the BJP Central Election Committee for the coming biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha from various state Assemblies.
The names were cleared in a meeting presided over by BJP President Rajnath Singh.
Other candidates chosen by the party include former Union Health Minister Dr C P Thakur from Bihar, Rajasthan BJP chief Om Mathur and Gujarat BJP chief Pursottam Rupala.
Candidates selected from different state assemblies by the BJP were: Balbir Punj from Orissa, Shiv Prasad Singh from Chhattisgarh, Jai Prakash Narayan Singh from Jharkhand, Maya Singh, Raghunandan Sharma and Prabhat Jha from Madhya Pradesh, Dr Gyan Prakash Pilania from Rajasthan, Bharat Singh Parmar and Nathuji Halaji Thakur from Gujarat.
Ms Singh and Dr Pilania were being re-nominated as they were already sitting RS members from MP and Rajasthan Assembly.
The Committee has also finalised the names for the Legilative Council membership for Bihar and Maharashtra. Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Legislative Council Pandurang Pundkar and Vinod Tavre were chosen for the Maharshtra Council membership.
Giri Raj Singh and Kameswar Choupal were chosen for the Bihar Legislative Council.
