Opposition protests against govt inaction on caste certificate issue
Dehra Dun, Mar 11 (UNI) Opposition Congress and Bahujan Samaj Party legislators boycotting the Uttarakhand Assembly today tied black clothes on their faces as a mark of protest against the government's failure to solve the domicile and caste certificate issue.
At about 1100 hrs, the Opposition members assembled in front of the state assembly and carried out a demonstration which lasted an hour.
Speaker Harbans Kapur, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prakash Pant, Sports Minister Rajendra Singh, among others, unsuccessfully tried to reason with the agitating legislators.
The Opposition has been cornering the Government in the House since day one of the Budget session demanding immediate discussion under rule 310 on issues relating to caste and domicile certificates for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). Other issues dominating the Opposition's 'charter of demands for discussion' include unemployment and development of the state.
