Hyderabad, Mar 11 (UNI) GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL)-promoted Rajiv Gandhi International Airport today said they have received a Gazette Notification issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to commence operations from 0001 hours on March 16.
This notification comes a day before the nationwide stir by employees against closure of Begumpet and Bangalore Airports.
''The notification also confirms the closure of commercial operations at the existing Begumpet Airport, Hyderabad, from March 16, 2008,'' the company said in a release here, notwithstanding the Andhra Pradesh High Court seeking the status of Begumpet Airport post-March 16 from the State Government and the Centre.
''This is in pursuance of Clause 5.5 of the Concession Agreement signed between the Government of India and GHIAL on December 20, 2004,'' the company said.
GHIAL has also received the additional clearance for Aerodrome Licence and Clearance for Operations of Fire Fighting Systems from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Environmental Clearance for operations from the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) besides clearance for the airport as a notified Customs zone, the release said.
UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi will inaugurate the new airport on March 14.
