Hyderabad, Mar 11 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy today assured the agitated MLAs of the Left parties that those responsibile for the attack on the 'Sundarayya Vigyana Kendram' last night, would be brought to book.
Making a statement in the Assembly, he condemned the alleged attempt to torch the portrait of veteran CPI(M) leader P Sundarayya by some unidentified persons and said special teams were formed to nab those involved. ''Investigation is on and the culprits will be punished,'' he assured the members.
The Minister said the police had acted in time to bring the situation under control.
Seeking clarifications, CPI Floor Leader Ch Venkata Reddy, CPI(M) Floor Leader N Narasimaiah and CPI(ML) New Democracy member G Narasaiah alleged that the intelligence wing of the state police had ''totally failed'' to prevent the attack, which came in the wake of similar attacks elsewhere in the country.
BJP Floor Leader G Kishan Reddy claimed that his partymen were not involved in the incident and demanded action against those who attacked him in the wake of the incident.
As many as, 30 Left parties activists were taken into preventive custody when they staged a dharna. They were later released. Later, 73 more activists were taken into preventive custody when they tried to proceed towards the State Assembly today. Over 150 BJP, RSS activists were also taken into preventive custody, he added.
Earlier in the day, members of the CPI, CPI(M) and TDP stalled the proceedings for sometime, when Speaker K R Suresh Reddy disallowed the adjournment motion notice given by them on the issue.
They resumed their seats after the Government agreed to make a statement on the issue later in the day.
