Delhi govt to look into demand for statue of Sikh warrior
New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today assured to look into the demand of the Sikh community to install a statue of Sikh warrior Baba Baghel Singh near the Tis Hazari Court complex here.
Ms Dikshit told Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) member Pushpinder Singh that once the government received the request in writing, the demand would be looked into ''favourably''.
The demand was raised during a seminar on the 'Role of minorities in the development of Delhi' organised by the DMC.
Incidentally, it was on this day in 1783 that a Sikh general, Baba Baghel Singh had arrived in Delhi to capture Red Fort. His 30,000-strong Army had camped at what is now known as Tiz Hazari, meaning 30 thousand.
It was Baba Baghel Singh who built Gurdwara Sis Ganj in Chandni Chowk to commemorate the martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur, where the Sikh Guru was beheaded in 1675.
