Chennai, Mar 11: The Tamil Nadu unit of BJP has decided to organise agitations in all districts, demanding closure of liquor shops located near educational institutions and places of worship.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the party executive, which met at Tiruttani on March seven and eight, BJP state unit President L Ganesan said in a statement here today. Mr Ganesan said it was a matter of shame that a number of TASMAC shops, selling liquor, were located near educational institutions, places of worship and residential areas, posing problems for students and public.

The DMK government should remove these shops immediately, failing which, the BJP would organise agitations in all the districts, he warned.

Stating that total prohibition was the party's policy, the BJP leader said it was unfortunate that the policy of total prohibition was ''shaky'' in Tamil Nadu during the last 25 years.

It was pity that governments in the last few years had been encouraging the sale of liquor by providing bar facilities to earn more income, Mr Ganesan lamented.
