BJP MPs decry attempts to form Congress Government in Meghalaya
New Delhi, Mar 11 (UNI) The BJP Parliamentary Party today took exception to the invitation for formation of Congress Government in Meghalaya, despite the Opposition enjoying majority in the 60-member House.
BJP Parliamentary Party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said the BJP MPs meeting presided over by Leader of the Opposition L K Advani was very concerned that there was an attempt to undermine the 31 MLAs enjoyed by the Opposition combine.
Mr D D Lapang was sworn in as Chief Minister of Meghalaya by Governor S S Sidhu yesterday. The new Chief Minister has sought ten days to prove his majority in the State Assembly.
The Congress did not have the numbers and their 25 MLAs were numerically weaker than the Opposition groups. ''We strongly condemn this move to undermine democratic tradition and values,'' he said.
