Ludhiana, Mar 10 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths today arrested two NRIs on the charges of smuggling psychotropic drugs.
According to the directorate sources, UK-based Amardeep Singh was nabbed in Ludhiana when he was escorting a truck carrying 232 kg ephedrine to Delhi. He was travelling in a car in front of the truck.
After interrogating Amardeep, the police also caught hold of another NRI, Canada-based Harjinder Singh, from a hotel in Patiala.
A sum of Rs 13 lakh was also seized from the duo.
Confirming the news, DRI joint Director (Punjab region) Dhiraj Rastogi said that police was in search of a man named Ranjit in this case.
According to sources, ephedrine was available in India at the rate of Rs 20,000 per kg while in the international market, its worth was Rs 2 lakh per kg.
