Hyderabad, Mar 10 (UNI) Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu today exuded confidence that his party would win a majority of seats in the bypoll expected to be held for 16 Assembly constituencies, fell vacant after the resignation of Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) MLAs recently.
Speaking to newspersons here, Mr Naidu claimed that the TDP had strengthened its base in the Telangana region as compared to 2004 elections. The party would win more seats than the ruling Congress party, he hoped.
Stating that the TDP respected the Telangana sentiment and was espousing the cause for the development of backward region, he said the TDP was the first political party which had raised Babli irrigation project and demanded for the setting up of an IIT centre at Basara in Adilabad district in Telangana.
Alleging that Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy was transferring all funds raised by selling the government land to his Pulivendula constituency and Kadapa district by taking up airport project and setting up of an IIIT centre at Idupulapaya, Mr Naidu charged Dr Reddy with forgetting the plight of people of other regions.
To a query, the former Chief Minister said the leaders, who were demanding that Telugu filmstar and his brother-in-law, Balakrishna, be nominated as Rajya Sabha MP in the biennial election, should come to him instead of giving statements to the press and writing letters to the party.
