Sanjay-Maanyata marriage case: New twist in hearing
Mumbai, Mar 10 (UNI) A local court today adjourned till tomorrow, the hearing in Sanjay Dutt-Maanyata marriage case after Mehraj Sheikh, Maanyata's ex-husband and a struggling film writer, gave a new twist to his contentions.
Sheikh has filed a petition challenging validity of the Bollywood actor's wedding to his ex-wife under Muslim Personal Law.
Earlier, the Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Bandra was given the English translation of Urdu documents submitted by Sheikh, who is in jail in an extortion case.
He has claimed as per the Muslim Personal Law, Maanyata, whose real name is Dilnawaz Sheikh, continues to be his legal wife and no divorce had taken place between them, as she has claimed quoting a 'Quazi' (Religious official).
He further alleged that Maanyata was pregnant at the time when she claimed to have divorced him and as per the Muslim Personal Law, no divorce can take place when the wife is pregnant.
Sheikh has also claimed he has a two-and-a-half-year-old son from Maanyata. He now lives with Maanyata's mother in Hyderabad.
