MAMI festival to fete Carlos Saura and Dharamendra
Mumbai, Mar 10 (UNI) The ongoing 10th MAMI International Film Festival will felicitate film-maker Carlos Saura with the 'Global Lifetime Achievement Award' and veteran Bollywood actor Dharamendra with the 'Lifetime Achievement award' during the closing ceremony on March 13.
In a career spanning more than half a century, Carlos Saura has always taken cinema to newer and more exciting heights. He is one filmmaker, who always refused to be tied down to a particular style of filmmaking and in the process created his own kind of cinema.'' ''Instead of equating cinema with sloganeering, Saura takes recourse in his deeper artistic, sensibilities and creates cinema texts that are lyrical.'' His films include ' Blood Wedding',' Carmen', 'El Amour Brujo' , 'Bunuel and the table of King Soloman' and 'Fados'.
Dharamendra has worked in over 230 films. After winning the Filmfare Talent Contest in 1960 in an impressive career spanning more than three decades, Dharamendra has acted in films like 'Dil Bhi Tera, Hum Bhi Tere', 'Pratigyaa', ' Chupke Chupke', 'Dharamveer', 'Satyakaam', 'Guddi', 'Andaaz', 'Aankhen', 'Ghulami', 'Hukumat', 'Yaadon Ki Baarat','Do Chor', ''Jeevan Mrityu' and the recent 'Apne' and ' Johnny Gaddar'.
