Panaji, Mar 10 (UNI) Ms Fiona Mackeown, mother of the 15-year-old British girl whose body was found on Anjuna beach on February 18 under mysterious circumstances, today sought a CBI probe in the case.
In a letter to Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Ms Mackeown said she had lost confidence in the local police with even the Director General of Police maintaining that it was a case of drowning as against the post-mortem reports which confirmed rape and homicide of Scarlette Eden Keeling.
She also planned to meet the Chief Minister soon to request him to refer the case to the CBI immediately for rendering justice.
She has also decided to dash off copies of the letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Women and Child Welfare Minister pleading for a CBI probe, her legal advisor Vikram Varma told UNI.
Meanwhile, the local police continued their investigation into the case and started interrogating others. More arrests are likely soon.
The youth Samson D'Souza, who was arrested yesterday in this connection, was remanded to police custody for 14 days to facilitate further investigation of the case, according to Inspector General of Police Kishan Kumar.
