Siliguri, Mar 10 (UNI) GNLF chief Subash Ghisingh today announced to launch a movement to press for a separate state of Gorkhaland.
The announcement came soon after Mr Ghisingh resigned from the post of Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council(DGHC) caretaker administrator as scheduled.
In his resignation letter addressed to West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the Gorkha National Liberation Front supremo said the GNLF would continue its demands for initiating open dialogues both with the Centre and state government on the issue of imposition of Sixth Schedule in the hill areas.
Meanwhile, GNLF Darjeeling president Dipak Gurung said Mr Ghisingh would not proceed to Darjeeling immediately and stay back at the Electricity department guest house here for a few more days owing to his ill health.
Earlier, asked whether Mr Ghisingh would be allowed to enter Darjeeling after resigning as DGHC caretaker administrator, Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) president Bimal Gurung had said, ''It is for the people to decide. If the public does not want him to enter the hill areas, then we cannot go against their wishes.'' The GNLF president also ruled out the formation of any alliance of his party with the GJM to demand Gorkhaland.
However, he said all the political parties of Darjeeling should come together and fight unitedly for the formation of a separate state.
Meanwhile, the North Bengal IG said Mr Ghisingh would be provided with Z+ security as of now, though he resigned his post, till the next review meeting on the security takes place about four to five months later.
