Cong committed to Telangana issue: Minister
Hyderabad, Mar 10 (UNI) Maintaining that the Congress and its leaders were not against providing separate statehood for Telangana, Andhra Pradesh Rural Development Minister G Chinna Reddy said the party was committed to the Telangana issue and the High Command (HC) would take a decision on it at an 'appropriate time'.
Addressing a press conference here today, he said the party High Command was seized of the matter.
On why the ministers belonging to the Telangana region were not talking about the sentiments of the Telangana people, he said ''being a national party, our leaders need to follow the direction of the party High Command.'' Congress leaders and Ministers would abide by the decision taken by the party High Command in this regard, he added.
The Minister said the state government had taken up several developmental activities in Telangana region with a view to develop the region. Mahaboobnagar, which was a very backward district earlier, had witnessed development in all sectors, he pointed out.
He said the government had established colleges, residential schools, hospitals and constructed and improved roads, provided electricity and drinking water supply to remote areas in the district and taken up irrigation projects to provide irrigation water to the backward areas.
He said the party was prepared to face the elections in the event of the by-elections, following the resignation of the TRS legislators and Parliamentarians. He claimed that the party was in a good position in Telangana region, and expressed his hope in winning the elections.
