Kolkata, Mar 09 (UNI) Immigration officials arrested a person today at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport on arrival from London after being deported from the UK for possessing forged travel documents.
Immigration officials said Kamaljeet Singh (28), a resident of Jalandhar, Punjab, left for Dubai from here on February 28 and then went to Cairo, Egypt, with his original passport.
However, at Cairo, despite having the original passport, he obtained another passprt of one Nitin Pinja, a resident of Delhi, and flew to London after replacing Pinja's photograph on it.
He said he had got Pinja's passport from a travel agent based in Kolkata, who also travelled with him upto Cairo, but at the Heathrow airport at London, UK officials discovered that the passport had been tampered with and sent him back to Kolkata on an Air India flight via Mumbai.
On interrogation here, Singh said he had obtained Pinja's passport because under the exisiting UK laws, it was difficult for Punjabis and Gujaratis to obtain visas from the UK.
Singh told officials that travel agents had promised to travel with him to London but vanished after handing him over Pinja's passport in Cairo.
