Nitish emphasies martial arts training to girls
Patna, Mar 9 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today said girls in the state will be trained in martial arts to counter eve-teasing.
Mr Kumar said here this would be a real gift to the women, who had to face a lot of trouble outside home. He said the girls would be taught judo and karate so that they can teach a lesson to the eve-teasers, who try to harass them. The state government had already provided bicycles to girl students in the urban areas and the same would be distributed soon in the rural areas.
Outlining the steps initiated by the NDA government for empowerment of women in the state, Mr Kumar said, ''Bihar has become the first state to provide 50 per cent reservation to women in Panchayats'' adding that the women representatives in Panchayats and civic bodies have improved the quality of work.
He said the women were also given 50 per cent reservation in the appointment of primary teachers.
