Hisar, Mar 9: Haryana Agriculture University will launch a Community Radio to establish a direct link of agricultural experts with farmers.
HAU Vice Chancellor Dr J C Katyal, during the inauguration of Kisan Mela here yesterday, said the University would be the first Agriculture University in the country to launch Community Radio which would enable farmers to take advice of scientists sitting in their homes.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the University had developed nine hybrid varieties of various crops during the last year which he termed as a ''historic achievement''. It was the result of the sincere efforts of the scientists of the University and toil of the farmers of the state that Haryana became number one in the country in the production of wheat last year, he said.
The Vice Chancellor expressed his gratitude to the state government for its constructive support. He said that the state Government had done a commendable job for the University to remove the ban of recruitments in the University, giving the pension grant of Rs 10 crore, plugging the deficit gap of 60 crore and allocating a budget of Rs 171 crore for the next financial year.
