Amjad Ali Khan's special tribute on Women's Day
Gwalior, Mar 9 (UNI) Sarod maestro Ustaad Amjad Ali Khan paid a musical tribute to the spirit of womanhood by his captivating performance on the second day of the Gwalior Heritage Festival.
On International Women's Day yesterday, the Ustaad left the audience spellbound by playing 'Raag Subbalaxmi,' a raag that he created as a tribute to his wife subbalaxmi Khan, a well-known Bharat Natyam exponent.
Listening to Rabindra Nath Tagore's creation 'Ekla Chalo Re' on Sarod was the other special treat for the music lovers. Waters of Baija Taj and the beautiful lights of Moti Mahal added more magic to his performance. His sons Amaan and Ayaan Ali Khan also performed at the event. The turnout was more than expected and special security arrangements were made to avoid any untoward incident.
The second day of the festival also included performances by fusion band 'Advaita' and dance recital by Ananda Shankar Centre of performing Arts. The recital 'Mrignayani' was a theme depicting the love story of Raja Man Singh and his wife Mrignayani. A heritage walk, which aimed at enlightening people about the richness of historical monuments like Moti Mahal, Baija Taj, Jal Vihar and Jai Vilas Palace, was organised earlier in the day, which was followed by children's painting competition.
Hema Malini and Ahahna Deol are set to perform today and security arrangements have been tightened as a huge turnout is expected.
