New Delhi, Mar 8 (UNI) Leading professionals including defending champion Ashok Kumar, former champion Shamim Khan, title contenders Rahul Ganapathy, Digvijay Singh will be seen in action in the SRF All India Professional Golf Matchplay Championship to be held here from March 11 to 15 this year.
The tournament with a field of 64 professional will be played on a a knockout format, wherein matches up to the semifinal stage will be played over 18 holes. The final encounter will be decided over 36 holes on March 15 along with the match for the third and fourth place.
Other prominent professionals taking part are Lam Chih Bing, Mukesh Kumar, Gaganjeet Bhullar, Arjun Singh, C Muniyappa and Vivek Bhandari.
Ashok Kumar, says he is looking forward to the event, ''It's a different format and the margin for error is very less. One has only eighteen holes to give his best and there is no time for recovery. Last year I had a great run at this event and am now looking to repeat that success.'' Singapore's Lam Chih Bing would pose a serious challenge to Ashok Kumar's defending champion status. Rahul Ganapathy and Mukesh Kumar, both double-winners in the current PGTI season, are right up there among the top title contenders.
Digvijay Singh, has a great opportunity to post his first win. He had finished runners-up on two occasions in the current PGTI season and a win would certainly put him on top in the current PGTI Order of Merit.
Shamim Khan will also be a major title contender. He has the ability to upstage the best as he had a fabulous season so far.
