Islamabad, Mar 8 (UNI) Vice-President of Pakistan People's Party and the frontrunner to the post of Prime Minister Mr Makhdoom Amin Fahim has said the party was ''insulting and humiliating'' him by delaying the announcement of the name of its candidate for the top job.
The comment by the senior PPP leader comes in the wake of the emergence of three other leaders for prime ministership.
They are Shah Mehmud Qureshi, Yousuf Raza Gillani and Ahmed Mukhtar.
Until recently Mr Fahim was almost the unanimous choice of the party for the post of Prime Minister but PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had been holding talks with party leaders in various provinces for building a ''consensus'' over the issue.
Mr Fahim's name was now being considered for Presidentship also.
Issuing a veiled threat to Mr Zardari, the senior politician said ''Mr Zardari should try to keep the PPP intact by avoiding splits in its ranks till the time Bilawal Bhutto Zardari takes over the command of the party from him.'' ''I have a roadmap in my mind, but I would reveal it only once the decision about the name of the prime minister is announced,'' he said in an interview to The News while referring to what his plans were if he was not made Prime Minister.
The outburst of Mr Fahim was directed against Mr Zardari's decision not to consult him and let the central executive committee (CEC) take a decision about advancing the nomination of three prime minister hopefuls from Punjab.
''I don't expect from Asif that he would bring someone else as the prime minister forcibly,'' he said.
He also denied having any direct talks with Mr Zardari over his elevation to the top post. ''So far both of us did not find the time to sit and discuss this issue.'' He admitted that unnecessary delay in the announcement of the name for the prime minister was causing some ''disturbance'' within the party.
Rejecting that he was lobbying to get his nomination through, Mr Fahim said ''We are used to get respect. I never made any group.
The PPP itself is my lobby. Me and PPP are one. I have given blood for the party and served it with both heart and mind.'' UNI XC YA HS1955
