Kapurthala Mar 8 (UNI) Of the 1000 constables to be recrurited soon by Punjab police, 500 would be women, Punjab DGP N.P.S. Aulakh said here today.
While talking to mediapersons, the DGP, here to preside over the convocation function of local Hindu Kanya College, said police department has sought the permisison of Government to recrurit 1000 constables on priority basis to maintain law and order of the State.
Commenting on the modernisation of police, he said the Centre had sanctioned Rs 24 crore for the modernisation of Punjab police and of the Rs 24 crore grant, Punjab government would have to give its share of 25 per cent. He claimed that 64 police stations in the State had been computerised and work on the computerisation of 31 police stations was going on.
Replying to a question on the cyber crime, he said police department would set up a police station and forensic laboratory at Mohali to deal with the cyber crime. He refused to comment on the suspension of Punjab IGP Rajinder Singh by saying the decision on suspension was taken by the Punjab Government .
Earlier, addressing the students, he stressed the need for women empowerment and education for the upliftment of the society. He conferred 550 degrees to the students and gave away prizes to the academic laurels.
