Chennai, Mar 8: The counsel for a Vellore prison detainee today filed a Habeas Corpus Petition in the Madras High Court, seeking a direction to the prison authorities to produce the body of the convict who was beaten up by prison officials to extract a signature from him.
Counsel R K Ayyappan also sought a CBI inquiry into the alleged gang rape of the convict's wife Nathiya by the prison officials and the her false virginity report filed by the Vellore District Superintendent of Police, when she was produced before the court on February 25.The counsel submitted that the detainee, Ganesan, was constantly being harassed and tortured by the prison officials as he had preferred a writ of Habeas Corpus to secure the release of his wife.
In order to torture the convict further, the SP had initiated steps to transfer Ganesan to some other jail as in that prison, the torture would not be noticed by anyone. Ayyappan also submitted that prison officials were not allowing him to meet his client and that his client was also segregated from other prisoners and kept in solitary confinement.
Hence, the counsel prayed the court to direct Tamil Nadu Home Secretary to transfer to CBI the investigation of the gang rape case and the false virginity report given by Vellore Government Hospital doctors.
The case was posted for further hearing on March 10.
