Cong bags two seats, NPF gets one in Nagaland
Kohima, Mar 8 (UNI) Congress has won two of the three seats declared so far in Nagaland as NPF bagged one seat with Rajya Sabha member T R Zeliang emerging winner in the results declared so far.
Mr Zeliang defeated his Congress rival Vatsu Meru by a considerable margin of 3879 votes.
Congress candidate Joshua was declared elected from Pughoboto constituency while his party colleague Tari won the Tenning seat.
The Congress is leading in 14 seats as per early trends while Nagaland People's Front is ahead in ten seats.
Counting of votes polled on March 5 has been taken up simultaneously in 12 district headquarters.
Earlier, State Chief Electoral Officer C J Ponraj, in a release issued here, said the counting was supposed to begin at 0800 hours.
However, according to the new directives of the ECI, it started at 1100 hrs.
The ECI did not specify the reason for the delay in the counting.
