Una, Mar 7 (UNI) The Una Zila Parishad (ZP) today passed a resolution, unseating the sitting Chairperson Parveen Sahota.
The meeting was presided over by Vice-Chairman Ram Lok in the presence of Panchayat Officer Ram Kali.
During elections to the Panchayati Raj Institutions held more than two years ago, the BJP had claimed that its candidates had won nine of the total 17 seats.
The post of the ZP Chairperson was reserved for scheduled caste candidate and Parveen Sahota of the Lalari ward had been declared elected after elections, which were marred with controversy.
The BJP, which was then in the opposition, had alleged foul play by the election presiding officer. The matter is still pending decision with the Supreme Court.
With the change in government in the state, nine Zila Parishad members owing allegiance to the BJP had met the Deputy Commissioner, expressing their 'no-confidence' in the Chairperson.
At a meeting held today at the Zila Parishad Bhawan, a resolution expressing no-confidence in the working of the Chairperson Parveen Sahota was passed.
The total number of members present in the meeting and voting in favour of the no-confidence motion included Balbir Bagga, Karam Chand, Kishan Pal, Manjeet Kaur, Sushil Kalia, Sheela Devi, Raj Kumar Dhiman, Jagjit Singh Mankotia and Ram Lok of the BJP besides two others, namely Chander Rekha and Rajinder Singh, who had earlier supported the Congress candidate.
Parveen Sahota was not present in the meeting along with five other members aligned with the congress party.
