Hyderabad, Mar 7 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy today accepted the resignation of 16 Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MLAs, who had resigned their membership on March 4 before the Speaker, to protest against the UPA's failure in granting statehood to Telangana.
Talking to UNI over telephone here, the Speaker's OSD Radhakrishna Murthy said Mr Reddy accepted the resignation of TRS MLAs and the acceptance letters were sent to state Legislature Secretary K Tuljanand Singh.
As part of the TRS's 'intensified' agitation for separate Telangana, four TRS MPs, including TRS President and former Union Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, had resigned their membership in Lok Sabha on March 3.
The 16 TRS MLAs and three MLCs submitted their resignation papers to the Assembly Speaker and Council Chairman A Chakrapani on March 4.
The TRS MPs, MLAs and MLCs resigned their posts, alleging that the Congress-led UPA government had cheated the people of Telangana by not respecting their sentiments on the issue of statehood.
