Kerala advocates stage dharna for High Court bench
New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) About 150 advocates from Kerala today staged a dharna in the capital city urging the Centre to sanction a bench of the Kerala High Court in Thiruvananthapuram.
Led by Vazhuthacaud Narendran, K P Jayachandran and S Reghukumar, the lawyers took out a procession and staged a demonstration on the Jantar Mantar Road.
Mr Panniyan Raveendran, MP, representing Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, inaugurated the dharna, which was addressed by CPI leader D Raja, C K Chandrappan and Dr K S Manoj (both MPs) besides Congress leader and former Kerala Minister G Karthikeyan.
A delegation of the advocates later called on Law Minister H R Bhardwaj and submitted a memorandum asking the government to set up a bench of the Kerala High Court in Thiruvananthapuram.
Kerala High Court is located at Kochi, though Thiruvananthapuram continues to be the capital city of the state.
