Cop injured while rescuing abducted teacher
Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Mar 7 (UNI) A police constable was injured while rescuing a teacher from his abductors in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu, early today.
Police said Chellapandi (40), working in a Government school at Aviputhur, was kidnapped by a three-member gang while he was going to school, yesterday. The trio called up the teacher's wife Amirtham last night and demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh.
Amirtham immediately sought the assistance of the police, who laid a trap to nab the culprits. However, on seeing the police, the trio attacked the teacher and the police personnel, inflicting cut injuries on constable Mannagkatti.
Police immediately retaliated and shot at the culprits, injuring one Ramesh in the limbs. However, the other two managed to flee the spot.
The injured teacher, constable and Ramesh were admitted to the Cuddalore Government Hospital.
